Korg Clone Conundrum Mp3 is recording of 3 synthesizer, first 4 notes from each then little phrases. Challenge is to say which is which! Is it real Korg MS-20, is it Legacy MS-20 or is it VAZ Modular 3? Prace your bets nooowww! |

Topaz (aka Matt) an IRC mate of mine, plus associates, wrote some of the music on the Solomon: Escape Artist thing on C4 tonight (rah!). The S&M escape filmed at Electrowerkz uses this little synth I coded called VAZ Plus 2 for the acidy synth sound. Evidence. [musicians... Matt has made some handy VST plugins you can find on his site] |

You want experimental? Just back from an immense project in Adelaide for the ABC, where we did a radio show about Percy Grainger's lost experimental music, including rebuilding his light controlled synth, the Electric Eye 2 machine from the 1950s (photo enclosed). If you listen to web radio at all, the show is streamable from http://www.abc.net.au/classic/nma/ for the next 10 days. It's the Oct 15 show.
Warren BurtWarren is a composer based in .au and beta tests VazMod for me. If you have any interest in early electronic music or early 20th century experimental music it's well worth a listen. |

Monosect
I've finally got around to updating the Monosect website a bit, only a year since I last touched it... The whole of the set played at Cyberpolis last week is there to download, that way more than a dozen people may get to hear it :> |

Can you tell what it is?
I was messing around with VazMod 3 and tried out an idea I had a while back, it's quite a simple patch. The shot of course shows how the UI is coming along, I've got a first take on dynamic shading going. ( screenshot )It sounds like this. Current Music: Chronika - Chapter One (comp) |

DevDiary
The first alpha of VazMod 3 went out at the end of last week, with all traces of the original gray/orange skin gone. It's still at the prototype stage but here's a shot of the current look: ( Picture ) |

Another remix (or 2)
I completed a remix for a band from Leicester called Conspiracy at the end of last week, and as with the Libitina remix it's in the electroclash style. Clip here. It works rather well with the vocal I think. A few months back I also did a remix of Universal Race for Theatre of Tragedy which came out in a psychotic squiggly technoid EBM style. That's their fault for sending the wrong tune! |

Libitina remix
So I offered to do a remix for Libitina who I've known for many years. They're a glammy kind of goth band. And I turned their song into an electro track. Maybe they'll like it. And maybe they'll ask what I've been taking... Have a listen (1min clip), the original is on ampcast linked from the Libitina site. I've been listening to a bunch of new electro stuff recently... Fischerspooner, Adult, Miss Kittin and The Hacker. It kind of links back to early EBM stuff like The Klinik. So I'm thinking maybe a combination of distorted electro beats, analogue synths and deadpan vocals might be a laugh, or it might fall flat on it's arse but I could have some fun messing around with it :) Current Music: Klinik - States |

VAZ 2001 gfx update
I've updated the last 3 screenshots, the dividers are now in and a few other tweaks made. The most obvious problem left is the drawing of the button groups in the sequencer. I've also switched to allow comments for registered users only, just because it's easy to post anon and forget to add a name which is frustrating. If you don't want to register with LJ you can mail comments directly to me (martin @ manikin.force9.co.uk). |

VAZ 2001 Sequencer
And the last major window, note the changed title bar. The idea is for it to be discreet but readable. Oh, and no dividers between modules yet (duh). The orange dividing lines in the synth window will probably go, on reflection they don't look too good. ( picture ) |

VAZ 2001 Mixer
This window is now done: ( picture )Again, reduced to 256 colours. Sequencer and tweaked synth windows to come soon. |

VAZ 2001 full screenshot
Here's the first full screenshot of the synth window for VAZ 2001: ( picture )The image has been reduced to 256 colours so it's slightly more grainy than the real thing. The shot is of a fully working UI, just a few niggles with clickable areas and highlighting the active control to be sorted out. |

VazMid progress
The new skin for VazMid is starting to take shape. I've ended up messing with the 3D stuff myself which I was trying to avoid. But when it gets down to the fine tweaking it's really difficult to do stuff at arms length. I'll post a screenshot as soon as I have a reasonably complete graphic. |

Dev Progress
VazMid now supports multisampling (i.e. a number of samples mapped to different ranges of the keyboard) and there's also basic support for polyphony in the sequencer. I'm dealing with some final UI tweaks, but the new skin is still to come. I've contributed a thunking-dll to the Delphi ASIO SDK hosted on http://www.axiworld.be/. Doing this meant I got around to doing the pure-Delphi ASIO support I'd been intending to do for ages... |
